Class of 2017 Celebrates Graduation

On Sunday, May 21st, 34 seniors graduated from Hudson High School. Although small in numbers, the class achieved many accomplishments. Two seniors committed to continuing their sport careers in Division I athletics, four led the Hudson Volleyball team to state for the first time in Hudson’s history, and one senior was a FFA National Qualifier.
Their achievements didn’t end at graduation. Seniors Maria Geisler and Madeline Hartleip were named valedictorians, senior Annie Klenk was named senior salutatorian, and seniors Emily Kaus and Madison Sallee were recognized for their 3.9 composite GPAs. Over half of the senior class were bestowed with cords, stoles, and medals to represent their achievements as well, and nearly all stood to be recognized for receiving a scholarship to pursue
further education.
The future is also bright for this small class. Out of the 34 graduating, 28 students plan to enroll in a postsecondary education, three plan to go into the workforce, and two plan to enlist into the United States Navy and National Guard.
Special speakers included Principal Jeff Dieken, Dr. Anthony Voss, school board president Karyn Finn, and co-valedictorians Maria Geisler and Madeline Hartleip. It was, however, the words of Hartliep that both inspired and challenged the graduates for the next step of their journey: Hartliep, “Whatever your gift, whatever your talent, use it to make the world a better place.”
